## **About Lansing Symphony Orchestra**

Formed in 1929, Lansing Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is widely recognized as one of mid-Michigan’s cultural gems. Now in its 95th season, the LSO continues to strive to reach audiences on a personal level, letting the power of live music do the talking. LSO fulfills its mission of “enriching lives through excellence in music and in education outreach” by presenting numerous public performances, including MasterWorks, Pops, Chamber Music, Family Series, and Neighborhood Concerts. Besides presenting the finest in orchestral performances, the LSO is committed to taking an active role in the development of music education programming for our community, and our nationally recognized education programs reach preschoolers to adults. In order to achieve and maintain a high-level of artistic excellence, LSO employs approximately 70 professional musicians who have won competitive auditions for their positions.  Maestro Timothy Muffitt has served as the Conductor and Music Director of the LSO since 2005.

The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) is a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC) user facility operated by Michigan State University with financial support from and furthering the mission of the DOE-SC Office of Nuclear Physics. FRIB enables scientists to make discoveries with rare isotopes that will positively impact humankind. FRIB aims to share the excitement of nuclear science with everyone through innovative and multi-disciplinary collaborations that engage learners of all ages and backgrounds.

Welcome to *Of Equal Place: Isotopes in Motion*, a 60-minute multi-media performance commissioned by the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). On stage and on video, you will see professional dancers from Dance Exchange and dance partners, scientists, and community youth performers. This dance work delves into some of the research being done at FRIB while exploring themes that resonate in both nuclear physics and dance: stability and instability, measurement, acceleration, fragmentation, and navigating mystery. Additionally, the performance investigates the contributions of women and people of color in science through a cast diverse in age, race, and cultural backgrounds. We hope this work will engage audiences who might be new to watching dance and/or new to thinking about physics. As you watch, resist the temptation to feel like you are not "getting it." Watching a dance is a creative process, much like the creative process of scientific research. You set up an experiment. You observe. From those observations, you collect data. Then, there's the key process of interpreting the data in a way that makes sense to you. Notice what you connect to, what meaning you are making, and let your own discoveries unfold. Then repeat this process. We invite you to revel in your own discoveries, to lean into curiosities. We hope the resources in the study guide and the opportunities on this campus will serve to launch you further into your understanding and curiosity of new areas for future research and creativity.

**Dance Exchange**\

Fueled by generosity and curiosity, Dance Exchange expands who gets to dance, where dance happens, what dance is about, and why dance matters. Dance Exchange collaborates across generations, disciplines, and communities to channel the power of dancemaking as a means for dialogue, a source of critical reflection, and a creative engine for thought and action. Founded in 1976 by Liz Lerman and under the artistic leadership of Cassie Meador since 2011, Dance Exchange is a non-profit dance organization based in Takoma Park, Maryland.
 
Much of Dance Exchange’s work across our 46-year history has focused on the intersection of art and science, leading to collaborations with scientists and educators in the fields of biology, physics, ecology, genetics, and more. In addition to FRIB, we’ve partnered with leading science organizations such as NASA, the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN), and more. By cultivating a sense of wonder, inquiry, and discovery in the dances we make and the workshops we lead, we celebrate the important role of both dance and science in moving us toward a deeper understanding of our world.

**Keith Thompson** (he/him) (*Creative Director*) danced for the Trisha Brown Dance Company from 1992-2001, served as Trisha's rehearsal assistant from 1998-2001, and currently performs with and is rehearsal director for Liz Lerman. He has taught master classes globally, and his company, danceTactics Performance Group, has been featured at Montpellier International Dance Festival, Dixon Place NYC, Triskelion Art Center, Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, Theater X (Tokyo), and Taliesin West. Keith is associate professor and director of the dance department at Arizona State University, where he is also the inaugural faculty fellow at the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy.

**Ami Dowden-Fant** (she/her) (*Director of Creative Engagement*) of Richmond, VA, is the thriving owner/director of River City Dance & Performing Arts Theatre. She has worked with a variety of artists such as Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Robert Battle, and Liz Lerman. She has been awarded the Outstanding Choreographer, Performer Award (VA), and *Style Weekly*'s Best Performing Arts Lessons (VA). Her work has been presented in the National American College Dance Festival (NYC) and Philadelphia Fringe Festival (PA). In 2009, she began her partnership with Dance Exchange, performing and leading workshops at Wesleyan University (MA), Department of Education (DC), and Belhaven University (MS). She was commissioned to choreograph for the William Penn School District (PA), Neighborhood Playhouse (NYC), and the Center of the Arts (VA). Ami Dowden-Fant is instilled with the gift to educate and inspire all willing movers of the many wonders of dance!

**Clarence Brooks** (he/they) (*Dance Exchange Partnering Artist*), Florida Atlantic University associate professor/director of dance, is a guest artist with Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble, David Parker and The Bang Group, and their own company, FAU Repertory Dance Theatre Ensemble. Brooks can be seen in the video documentary *The World of Alwin Nikolais* and their essay "Dancing with the Issues" was published in *One Teacher in 10* (Alyson Books). The recipient of several fellowships and awards, Brooks holds an MFA (University of Washington), four certifications, and sits on the boards of danceTactics, Natural Movers Foundation, Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble, Miami Dance Futures, Humphrey Foundation, and several university committees.

**Shawn Brush** (he/him) (*Dance Exchange Partnering Artist*) is a NY-based dancer and choreographer. He dances for danceTactics Performance Group (where he is also assistant to the artistic director), Falcon Dance, and is currently on project with Dance Exchange. Shawn has previously danced for Maya Orchin, Laura Peterson Choreography, Stefanie Nelson, The New Collectives, Meagan Woods company, and Hillary Pearson. Shawn's own choreography, under Brush/McGrath (works) with his partner and wife, Molly McGrath, has been presented at Judson Memorial Church, Triskelion Arts, Dixon Place, and Raritan Valley Community College. He is also a teaching artist and has taught at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, Raritan Valley Community College, and public schools across New Jersey. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Dance from Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2015.

**Brit Falcon** (she/her) (*Dance Exchange Partnering Artist*) is a performer, choreographer/maker, bodyworker, and educator. She has had the pleasure of performing with William Evans, Kista Tucker Dance, Inc., Steeledance, Bryan Baira, Donnell Oakley, Renegade Performance Group, Keith Johnson & Adriane Fang, Kendra Portier, and David Dorfman Dance. She has taught at numerous universities and festivals nationally and internationally, sharing her research in the intersections of dance performance, wellness, science, and ecology. Brit holds a BFA from The College at Brockport and is currently an MFA candidate in dance at the University of Maryland. She is the artistic director of Falcon Dance.

**Esther Geiger** (she/her) (*Dance Exchange Partnering Artist*) is interested in how things connect, and in finding connections by looking for essence. Links along her movement journey include modern dance (with a German Expressionist twist), Iyengar yoga, structured improvisation (mentored by master Richard Bull), and the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System (LBMS). Esther taught at Dance Exchange under Liz Lerman in the 1970s-80s and reconnected with the DX community in the 2000s. She is a Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) and has applied that work to playground design, movement education, unschooling, personnel management, and audio description. She has taught in LBMS certification programs in the U.S. and Israel.

**Liv Schaffer** (she/her) (*Dance Exchange Partnering Artist*) is a Bay Area artist and educator with a focus on intergenerational practice at the intersection of dance and social impact sectors. She holds a degree from Alonzo King's LINES Ballet BFA Program at Dominican University of California and has performed with AXIS Dance Company, DanceWorks Chicago, Robert Moses' Kin, and Dance Exchange. Liv is a community engagement artist with Jacob's Pillow and on faculty at the University of San Francisco's Performing Arts & Social Justice department, where she directs the Dance Generators, an intergenerational dance company. Liv's choreography has been presented by Jacob's Pillow Inside/Out, ODC State of Play Festival, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival/RAWDance SF, The Big Muddy Dance Company, and Western Michigan University.

**All Of The Above Hip Hop Academy** is a nonprofit organization made up of artists, educators, and advocates that mentor youth, support artistic expression, and serve communities as a Hip Hop cultural resource for the purpose of youth development.


**Greater Lansing Ballet Company** has been presenting quality dance productions with professional and pre-professional dancers for more than 30 years. As the area's premier pre-professional ballet institution, the Greater Lansing Ballet Company (GLBC) brings this stunning art form to venues throughout Mid-Michigan. A nonprofit organization, GLBC's tradition of strong technical foundations in multiple dance idioms paired with pursuit of continued artistic growth through engaging, high-level choreography extends to young people a unique opportunity to learn and perform classical and contemporary ballet in an extraordinary professional environment.

**Happendance's** mission is to make dance accessible to all and to foster support for the performing arts through three core programs:

1\. The Happendance Professional Company: founded in 1976, it is the longest-running professional contemporary dance company in Michigan.

2\. The Happendance School: offers both recreational and intensive training in various dance styles, along with a need-based scholarship program to support access to dance education.

3\. The Happendance Education Exchange: an outreach program that brings dance residencies and performances into PreK-12 public schools and after-school programs. 

Together, these programs embody Happendance's commitment to enriching lives through dance, fostering creativity, and building community connections across all ages, and backgrounds.

The Lansing Everett High School Dance Company program has served as a dance hub for students in the Lansing School District for generations. Celebrating 50 years, Everett Dance has left a lasting impact on Lansing students and the Greater Lansing community.

### **All of the Above Hip Hop Academy**

Tabor Vits lives in Lansing, Michigan and works as a bboy ("breakdancer"), teaching artist, and nonprofit fundraiser. He is a part of 99stylez Crew, All of the Above Hip Hop Academy, and the World Serpent collective.  

### **Lansing Everett High School**

**Clara Martinez** is the Dance Director at Everett High School in the Lansing School District. She is a proud union member and advocates for students and educators in the Lansing Schools Education Association. She is a Board Member for All Of The Above Hip Hop Academy, and is an appointed Commissioner by Lansing City Council to the City of Lansing Arts & Culture Commission to represent the 1st Ward. Clara received her Master of Social Work in Organization & Community Leadership from Michigan State University, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from The Ohio State University.  

**Gianna Allen** is a sophomore at Everett High School and is a member of the Everett Sr. Dance Company, Everett Student Council, and Everett Varsity Cheer. She has been dancing for over a decade, and has been in numerous productions with her studio Patsy Watsons, as well as with Dwight Rich School of the Arts and Everett Dance. Gianna has taken classes at Broadway Dance Center and Ailey Extension in New York City as part of the Everett Dance 50th Anniversary and inaugural NYC Dance Trip. Gianna plans to pursue dance in college and in her career path.  

**Jahaziel “Naomi” Briones Villarreal** is a senior at Everett High School and is a member of the Everett Sr. Dance Company and Everett Student Council. She has choreographed and performed in several student pieces at Everett Dance, as well as played as a Varsity athlete in multiple sports also. Naomi has taken classes at Broadway Dance Center and Ailey Extension in New York City as part of the Everett Dance 50th Anniversary and inaugural NYC Dance Trip.  Naomi plans to pursue design in college and always keep dancing in her life along the way. 

**Aracelli Reyes** is a junior at Everett High School and is a Dance Captain of the Everett Sr. Dance Company, and an Everett Varsity Volleyball Player and Cheerleader. She has been in numerous productions with Dwight Rich School of the Arts and Everett Dance. Aracelli has taken classes at Broadway Dance Center and Ailey Extension in New York City as part of the Everett Dance 50th Anniversary and inaugural NYC Dance Trip. Aracelli plans to pursue nursing in college and always keep dancing in her life along the way. 

**Dennison Tran** is a senior at Everett High School and is a member of the Everett Sr. Dance Company and Everett Student Council. Dennison has fully thrown himself into studying dance, beginning in Dance 2 at Everett earlier this year, to auditioning for Dance Company, to now being a Company Member and performing in this production. Dennison is dual enrolled at Lansing Community College and multiple Advanced Placement classes at Everett, and plans to pursue a career in medicine, and of course keep dancing. 

### **Greater Lansing Ballet Company**

**Anastasia Babayan** is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer at Greater Lansing Academy of Dance and Greater Lansing Ballet Company. Currently a senior at MSU studying kinesiology, she is excited to be a part of this amazing project that brings both art and science together. 

**Serena Lotreck** is a recent PhD graduate from the Department of Plant Biology at MSU. While in Lansing, Serena danced with the Greater Lansing Ballet Company’s Collegiate (now Young Adult) Company in The Nutcracker and The Little Mermaid. She is excited to be back at MSU participating in a science outreach event that combines her interests in dance and science!   

**Jim McEwan** is Artistic Director of the Greater Lansing Ballet Company and Director/Instructor for the Greater Lansing Academy of Dance. He is an established choreographer, teacher, and dancer who is always excited to find new collaborative ways to bring his passion for dance to the larger community. 

**Paulina Rivet** has been a dancer for as long as she can remember. She began her serious training with Greater Lansing Academy of Dance in 2016 and performed various shows as a member of the Greater Lansing Ballet Company. Today she is in the Alma College Dance Program and teaches ballet at the Academy of Performing Arts.

**Chloe Gonzales** is a dancer, teacher, choreographer, and director based in the Lansing area. She currently dances for the Happendance Professional Company and is Artistic Director and founding member of the (re)spire dance collective. 

**Bridget Vander Hoff** holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Oakland University. In addition to Happendance, she performs with Greater Lansing Ballet Company, Elements, and Dance Uprising, and is the Executive Secretary for Michigan Dance Council. This is her second time performing in Of Equal Place, and she has enjoyed the ongoing experience of watching the piece continue to grow. 

### **FRIB Dancers**

**Hannah Berg** is a nuclear astrophysicist, with a passion for outreach and accessibility in science. In her spare time, she likes puzzles, dance, boxing, and crafting, whether it be knitting, ceramics, painting, or other media. Dance has always been important to her, and she is excited to combine nuclear physics and dance. 

**Zach Constan** earned his Bachelor’s Degree in physics (1995) from Albion College, studied psychoacoustics for his Ph.D. in physics (2002) at Michigan State University, taught college astronomy for three years, and served as a church Youth Director. Now, as FRIB Outreach Coordinator, he gets to tell everyone about the exciting developments in nuclear science at MSU’s Facility for Rare Isotope Beams. 

**Prof. Alyssa Gaiser** does research in radiochemistry. Her research focus is on promethium fundamental chemistry for nuclear battery applications, in addition to radium chemistry for medical applications.

**Peter Burns – Assistant Sound Designer**\
Peter is a sound designer, composer, and mixer with experience in theatre, film, and concerts. Some of his previous works include serving as the mixer for the Cantico concert at the Glimmerglass Festival, featuring Natalie Merchant and Anthony Ross Costanzo; sound designer for A Little Night Music at Carnegie Mellon University; associate sound designer for Godspell at Flint Repertory Theatre; and associate sound designer for AutoCorrect Thinks I’m Dead at Gallaudet University.

**Sara Delaney – Costume Designer**\
Sara Delaney is a Washington, DC based Costume Designer who has worked for the James River Shakespeare Company, Berkeley Plantation, and freelances her historical reproduction work. A graduate from Christopher Newport University, Sara has done research reconstructing garments and is passionate about research being combined with the performing arts.

Peter Leibold VI (Lighting Designer) is a lighting designer based in New York City. Simone Baskerville is a Production Manager, AEA Stage Manager, and TV/Film Producer. *STOMP*, a unique combination of percussion, movement, and visual comedy, was created in Brighton, UK, in the summer of 1991. It was the result of a ten-year collaboration between its creators, Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas.

They first worked together in 1981, as members of the street band Pookiesnackenburger and the theatre group Cliff Hanger. Together, these groups presented a series of street comedy musicals at the Edinburgh Festival throughout the early '80s. After two albums, a UK TV series and extensive touring throughout Europe, Pookiesnackenburger also produced the highly acclaimed "Bins" commercial for Heineken lager.

The piece was originally written and choreographed by Luke as part of the band's stage show; it proved to be the starting point for *STOMP*'s climactic dustbin dance.

In 1986, Luke and Steve created an eight-minute 'percussive movie' for Bette Midler's HBO special *Mondo Beyondo*. Between 1987 and 1990, Luke staged, as Artistic and Musical Director, four large-scale outdoor events including "Beat the Clyde," which involved floating a drum orchestra on a pontoon in the center of Glasgow. The largest of these events, "The Heineken Hove Lagoon Show," involved a 120-piece drum orchestra featuring the Brighton Festival Chorus and a full orchestral string section.

In 1991, Steve and Luke first created *STOMP*, previewing at London's Bloomsbury Theatre and premiering at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, where it became The Guardian's "Critics' Choice," and won The Daily Express "Best of the Fringe Award."

Between 1991 and 1994, the original cast of *STOMP* played to capacity audiences around the world: from Hong Kong to Barcelona, from Dublin to Sydney. The touring culminated in a sell-out season at London's Sadler's Wells Theatre in January 1994, where *STOMP* received an Olivier nomination for Best Entertainment, and won Best Choreography in a West End Show.

An expanded version of *STOMP*, involving up to 30 cast members, was originally created for the Brighton Festival, UK, and was subsequently presented in Melbourne, Australia. It was most recently seen in September 1995, open-air, at the Acropolis in Athens and at the Royal Festival Hall, London. This production broke all box office records, which had been established by Frank Sinatra in 1972.

*STOMP* began its run at the Orpheum Theatre in New York in February 1994 and quickly went on to win both an Obie and a Drama Desk Award for Most Unique Theatre Experience. By the summer of 1994, the first American cast was in place at the Orpheum, freeing the original cast for sell-out tours of North America and Japan.

In the summer of 1995, two more American productions were created for the sole purpose of US touring, which continues to this day. US casts have also debuted *STOMP* in Chile, Brazil and Korea. Meanwhile, a fifth *STOMP* company, also touring from the UK, was formed in 1997 and has consistently toured the world ever since. This company presented *STOMP* for the first time in Scandinavia and South Africa, and has been a regular visitor to Germany, Holland and France. Another *STOMP* production opened in San Francisco in May 2000, running for two and a half years.

The original cast of *STOMP* have recorded music for the *Tank Girl* movie soundtrack, and appeared on the Quincy Jones album, *Q's Jook Joint*. A soundtrack recorded by Steve and Luke for the Showtime movie *Riot* was released in the spring of 1997. *STOMP* has also featured in a number of commercials, including Coca-Cola's "Ice Pick," and numerous spots for both Target stores in the US, and Toyota in Japan.

*STOMP* also created the *Mr Frears' Ears* series of short films created for Nickelodeon, whilst *Brooms*, a 15-minute short based around the opening routine, was nominated for an Academy Award. "Brooms" was also selected for screening at Robert Redford's Sundance Festival and for competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

*STOMP* made a special appearance at the Academy Awards in March 1996, with an original piece involving the live synchronization of classic film clips and onstage action, featuring 20 performers from all five productions.

In the summer of 1997, Steve and Luke created and directed *STOMP OUT LOUD*, a 45-minute television special for HBO, which combined stage material with new pieces created for TV. It was premiered in the USA in December 1997 and subsequently received four Emmy nominations, for direction, sound mixing, multi-camera editing, and art direction. 1998 saw the release of the *STOMP OUT LOUD* video and DVD around the world. Another unique blend of live action and film footage was created for the Emmy Awards, in which *STOMP* effectively performed with Spike Jones!

*STOMP* performed after midnight on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at U.S. President Clinton's millennium celebrations. During 2000, a *Sesame Street* special "Let's Make Music," a collaboration between *STOMP* and the Muppets, was released on TV and video in North America.

Luke and Steve began production of their IMAX movie *Pulse: A STOMP Odyssey* in Brazil during Carnival 2000 and completed it in the summer of 2002. Pulse takes the IMAX audience on a spectacular global journey, featuring performances from Kodo, Timbalada, and Eva Yerbabuena. It was released to critical acclaim in New York in the autumn of 2002, and went on to win two major awards at the International Festival of La Géode in Paris.

In September 2002, *STOMP* finally entered London's West End at the Vaudeville Theatre, and later that year *STOMP* performed as part of The Royal Variety Show for the second time.

2003 saw a new *STOMP* production open at the Stuart Street Theatre in Boston, and a unique Dolby Digital trailer featuring *STOMP* performances debuted in cinemas across the globe.

In 2004, New York celebrated 10 years of continuous performances of *STOMP* at the Orpheum Theatre by renaming 2nd Avenue at 8th Street Stomp Avenue.

In addition to the European tour, in 2005 *STOMP* returned to Tokyo for three weeks and also toured to Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

In 2006, *STOMP*'s New York production passed its 5,000th performance mark. In the same year, Luke and Steve directed a public service announcement for television called "Stomp Out Litter," which featured the cast 'sweeping up' at iconic locations in the five boroughs.

In addition, they were commissioned to create and produce The Lost and Found Orchestra, which takes the ideas behind *STOMP* to a symphonic level, in celebration of 40 years of the Brighton Festival. The LFO subsequently performed at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Sydney Festival early in 2007, was seen at the Royal Festival Hall in London at Christmas 2008, and the Theater Carré in February 2009.

In 2007, *STOMP OUT LOUD* opened in Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino with an expanded cast and performed inside a new $28 million theatre, specifically created for the production. The West End entered its 6th consecutive year with a move from the Vaudeville to the Ambassadors Theatre.

In 2008, *STOMP* returned to its roots for a new DVD shoot at the Brighton Dome, bringing together a cast from all over the *STOMP* world. For the first time, the entire show has been captured in high-definition sound and video.  2008 also saw Steve and Luke expand into new areas with the release of their IMAX 3D nature documentary *Wild Ocean*, with a symphonic mix of percussion and traditional orchestra in the soundtrack. In September of the same year, *Wild Ocean* won two awards at the Giant Screen Cinema Association for Best Sound and Best Original Score at their annual conference held in New York.

The Lost and Found Orchestra reunited in 2010 for a new show, *PANDEMONIUM*, which appeared in several U.S. cities throughout the autumn.

In 2011 the New York production of *STOMP* entered its eighteenth year, trouncing the Orpheum house record set by *Little Shop of Horrors*. It also entered its tenth year in the West End at the Ambassadors Theatre, whilst at the same time Steve and Luke continued with their 3D film work. 2012 has seen the release of *The Last Reef 3D*, a film about the beauty andthe plight of reefs worldwide. As with *Wild Ocean*, Luke and Steve composed the film's orchestral soundtrack, recording it at The Old Market Theatre in their hometown of Brighton & Hove in the UK. They have also celebrated the one-year anniversary of The Old Market Theatre, which, having renovated it back in 2011, they now run as a full-time venue bringing music, theatre, dance, comedy and visual arts to the UK's south coast.

Most recently, in August 2012, the largest ever assembly of *STOMP* performers (40 performers from 12 different countries) were brought together for a specifically choreographed appearance in the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

**JUDE CAMINOS** (*Performer*) is a music director and musician based in Brooklyn, NY. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, where he majored in percussion performance and music education, with a minor in Drama. He moved to NYC in 2021 and has since been a freelance artist, preschool teacher, and children's music performer. He has since music-directed and performed in various cabarets across NYC. Most recently, Jude music-directed "Rent" at Southern Plains Productions in Spring of 2024. I am endlessly grateful for this opportunity! Thank you to my family, friends, and especially my girlfriend for their undying support and love!

**DILIAN CANTRELL** (*Performer*) is a classically trained technical and street dancer out of Stamford CT. He has trained and been mentored by Jimmy Locust. Studying Giordano jazz technique since a young age Dilian was able to learn the structure, maturity, technique, and professionalism that it takes to be a dancer and performer. He has performed across the tri state area in private performing art festivals, parades, charity events, and competitions. He is beyond thrilled to be a part of the cast of *STOMP* and can't wait to share his love for dance and music with everyone.

**MICAH COWHER** (*Performer*) is a New York native with a passion for all things rhythm. Growing up playing drums, Micah went on to major in music education at NYU-Steinhardt before studying musical theatre and dance at AMDA. Since then, he's traveled the world acting and drumming in various musicals and rock bands. Favorite theatre credits include Rock of Ages, Shrek the Musical, Monty Python's Spamalot, Footloose, and Bayside the Musical. Current band/producing projects include @nightwithoutcars, @theduderanch, and @thealicevalentine. When not performing, Micah teaches percussion and tap dance at Dance Molinari while also managing his entertainment company, Imperial Entertainment NYC. @micah.cowher

**JOHN GAVIN** (*Performer*) is an in demand drummer and percussionist based out of Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Florida, he has performed as a musician for the Walt Disney Company at their theme parks across the United States. Recently, he has performed and recorded with the ska-rock group Streetlight Manifesto and played percussion on the soundtrack of the film, CAM. John would like to thank his friends and family for the unending support and every teacher who has shared their knowledge. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Music from New York University.

**DANIELLE IMANI** (*Performer*)  is a powerhouse performer with a Bachelor's in Kinesiology from UNLV. Skilled in West African, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Body Percussion, she has graced the stage with Cirque du Soleil, Jessica Reedy, Shaq, and Gwen Stefani. As Director of AFROSEXY in Las Vegas, she leads productions that inspire confidence and empowerment. Passionate about teaching artistic expression, Danielle has toured globally with the renowned body percussion company, MOLODI. Through her company, BLVK EMPOWER, she helps others discover healing through movement-based energy flow. Recently married and a proud dog mom of two, she continues to create and inspire.

**BEN JOHNSON** (*Performer*) It's a dream come true for Ben to be an official member of the STOMP family. Raised in Rockford, Illinois, Ben graduated from Rockford University with a BFA in Musical Theatre. He most recently performed as Big Bird in the National Tour of Sesame Street Live! Credits also include: The Buddy Holly Story (Weston), Grease, Once (PMT), and Elf (The Studio). Theme Park goers may have seen him perform at Cedar Point and Kings Dominion. **JASMINE JOYNER** (*Performer*) is a performer from Queens, NY who has studied dance all her life. She started out in her hometown family dance studio called Jenn's Studio 1. She received her Bachelors in Dance from SUNY Fredonia. As a professional dancer, she has performed in many dance ensembles, theater production of *Cabaret*, and Debbie Allen's Dance Academy summer intensives. She is grateful *STOMP* has given her opportunities to fulfill her hopes and dreams. Special thanks to her family and friends for being her biggest supporters.

**MICHAEL MENDOZA** (*Performer*) is a Brooklyn-based musician and educator with over a decade of experience. He passionately teaches young musicians through The Brooklyn Steppers, nurturing their talents across New York. He performs with Blue Devils Entertainment, playing with the Giants Drumline and major events. His standout moments include performing at Spike Lee's Purple People Party, featured on Netflix's She's Gotta Have It, and with Lil Nas X at the 2021 VMAs. **JAYME OVERTON** (*Performer*) is from Williamsburg, VA and received a degree in therapeutic recreation at St. Joseph's University in 2023. She has trained in various styles of dance but found her love for tap dance at age 10. Now a New York City resident, she has been fortunate enough to attend several dance intensive festivals, such as the tap dance program at The School at Jacob's Pillow, and perform in shows under the direction of Michelle Dorrance, Dormeshia, Derick K. Grant, and many more. Jayme was a member of the final cast of *STOMP* NYC. She is so grateful to be a part of *STOMP* and create music with her fellow artists.

**ANDREW PATRICK** (*Performer*) Massachusetts native and now a London, UK resident, Andrew began his *STOMP* journey in 2002 in NYC. Having spent the past 22 years performing in the London and Boston productions, the US tour, and the International tour, he is excited to return to North America for the 2024-2025 season 30th Anniversary tour. Andrew feels very fortunate to have been a part of the *STOMP* family as long as he has. Seeing the world and putting smiles on audience's faces while playing music and performing has been an absolute dream come true.  Outside of *STOMP* he is also a singer songwriter and is involved with various music projects playing drums. @andygpatrick

**ISAIAH ROBINSON** (*Performer*) is excited to be making his STOMP debut on the 30th anniversary national tour. Originally from South Jersey, Isaiah graduated from Montclair State University's BFA Acting program in May of 2024. **CADE SLATTERY** (*Performer*) Originally from San Diego, Cade joined a percussion motivational performance group called Jr. Crew in 2006 run by Chris Rubio, formerly of *STOMP*, which sparked his love for the show. **LUKE CRESSWELL** (*Director*) is a self-taught percussionist from Brighton. His session work as a drummer and rhythm programmer includes Beats International, Bette Midler, Elvis Costello, and Bryan Ferry. After working for several years as a street musician and performer, he first created *STOMP* in 1991. He has directed, with Steve McNicholas, several award-winning commercials and short films. He received an Oscar^®^ nomination for the film "Brooms," an Emmy nomination for *STOMP OUT LOUD*, and co-directed the award-winning IMAX movie, *Pulse: A STOMP Odyssey*. He has also received a special achievement award from the Chicago Human Rhythm Project. More recently, Luke co-created the Lost and Found Orchestra and the Vegas production of *STOMP OUT LOUD* and also co-directed the 3D IMAX movie *Wild Ocean*. Luke occasionally performs with *STOMP*, and is currently conductor of the LFO.

**STEVE McNICHOLAS** *(Director)*, from Yorkshire, has worked as an actor/singer/musician/writer with various theatrical and musical groups, starting out with the Bradford Theatre Group in 1973. Through the '80s he worked with Cliff Hanger, Covent Garden Community Theatre, and Pookiesnackenburger. Despite also being an original member of the a cappella group the Flying Pickets, and a final appearance in *Mr. Bean*, Steve no longer performs. He shares directorial credits with Luke Cresswell on *STOMP*-based films and commercials, and their new show, the *Lost and Found Orchestra*. With Luke, he composed the soundtrack to the Showtime movie, *Riot*, and shares the Oscar and Emmy nominations for his work on *Brooms* and *STOMP OUT LOUD*, and co-directed the award-winning IMAX movie, *Pulse: A STOMP Odyssey*. Steve also co-created the LFO and co-directed the 3D IMAX movie *Wild Ocean*, released worldwide in 2008.

## About Cameron Graves

Pianist, composer and vocalist Cameron Graves calls the music he’s
architected for his new Artistry Music/Mack Avenue Music Group release
thrash-jazz, though that only begins to tell the story. Yes, upon an initial
listen, the juggernaut metal force and hardcore precision of Seven can
knock you back. After all, Graves grew up in metal-rich Los Angeles,
headbanging to Living Colour as a kid and, after immersing himself in
jazz and classical studies for years, reigniting his love for hard rock.

But listen closer to Seven, Graves’ follow-up to 2017’s Planetary Prince
(which Pitchfork called a “rousing debut”). “Los Angeles is a melting pot
of everything,” Graves points out. His father, Carl Graves, was a great
soul singer, and you can hear his imprint along with the likes of Marvin
Gaye and Otis Redding, on “Eternal Paradise,” which marks the younger
Graves’ vocal debut. Throughout the album, the generation of 1970s jazzrock
fusion pioneers is a source of inspiration. “… Stanley Clarke, Chick
Corea, Herbie Hancock—these guys sat with us and told us, ‘Look, man,
you’ve got to carry this on.”

## **About Greg Morton**

At age 16, Greg Morton got his first job at a local department store
as a P.A. announcer. That same voice that grabbed the attention of
shoppers, went on to wow the judges, on season 14 of America’s Got
Talent. Howie Mandel said, “I can’t believe there isn’t a banner with
your name on it in Vegas!”

Since then, he has performed and hosted AGT Superstars LIVE in Las 
Vegas at the Luxor Hotel. He was also the host of Mad Apple!, Cirque du

**MANDY PATINKIN** has been fortunate to carve out a varied career including theater, the concert stage, film, television, and as a recording artist.

In his 1980 Broadway debut, Mandy won a Tony Award for his role as Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber's *Evita,* directed by Hal Prince, and was nominated in 1984 for his starring role as George in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, *Sunday in the Park with George*.  Mandy's other stage credits include *Compulsion*, *Paradise Found*, *The Tempest*, *Enemy of the People*, *The Wild Party, Falsettos, The Secret Garden, The Winter's Tale, The Knife, Leave It to Beaver is Dead, Rebel Women, Hamlet, Trelawney of the 'Wells,' The Shadow Box, The Split*, *Savages*, and *Henry IV, Part I.*

In 1989, Mandy began his concert career at Joseph Papp's Public Theater in New York City.  Since then, he has toured (and continues to tour) his various solo concerts across North America, in London's West End, through Australia and New Zealand, as well as on Broadway and Off-Broadway. His newest solo concert is *Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Being Alive.*

In addition to solo concerts, Mandy has created collaborations with artists including opera star Nathan Gunn in *An Evening with Mandy Patinkin & Nathan Gunn*, touring the US, Australia and New Zealand; with his dear friend Patti LuPone in *An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin* which has toured since 2007 and played Broadway in 2012; *Bridges*, a concert with musicians from various countries in the Middle East; *The Last Two People on Earth: An Apocalyptic Vaudeville*, with Taylor Mac, and direction by Susan Stroman; and most recently with his wife Kathryn Grody in *An Evening with Mandy Patinkin & Kathryn Grody*, moderated by their son Gideon Grody-Patinkin.

As a recording artist on CBS Records, Mandy released two solo albums, *Mandy Patinkin* and *Mandy Patinkin In Concert: Dress Casual*.  On the Nonesuch label, Mandy has record *Children + Art*, *Experiment,* *Oscar & Steve*, *Kidults* and *Mandy Patinkin Sings Sondheim*. In 1998 he debuted his most personal project, *Mamaloshen*, a collection of traditional, classic and contemporary songs sung entirely in Yiddish. The recording of *Mamaloshen* won the *Deutschen Schallplattenpreis* (Germany's equivalent of the Grammy Award).

As diverse as his professional life has been, Mandy's education in the field of social activism has been even more varied and continues to evolve. He has helped raise funds for organizations dear to his heart including Brady Campaign, PAX, Doctors Without Borders, Association to Benefit Children, American Jewish World Service, Search For Common Ground, National Dance Institute, and ACLU.  Mandy is a board member of the Arava Institute and continues to work with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), highlighting the plight of refugees worldwide.

**ADAM BEN-DAVID** has been living his "bucket list" dream of accompanying Mandy Patinkin in concert since 2016. He has been active as an arranger, music director, conductor and pianist on Broadway for the past 25 years. Adam's credits include: *The Book of Mormon*, *Jersey Boys*, *Spring Awakening*, *Wicked*, *High Fidelity*, *The Light in the Piazza*, *Bombay Dreams*, *Aida,* and *Once Upon a Mattress*. Dan has created studio designs for "The Late Show" (with David Letterman as well as Steven Colbert), "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," "Survivor," "The View," and "The Today Show." For over 30 years, Dan was responsible for  the sound design and music production for the famed *Radio City Christmas Spectacular* and its touring company *Christmas Across America*. He has designed theatrical and multi-media shows in the US, Europe, and Japan. Recent credits include *A Taste of Things to Come*, *The Last Two People on Earth: An Apocalyptic Vaudeville*, *An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin, Sinatra — His Voice, His World, His Way*, and John Lithgow's *Stories By Heart*.  Dan is also an accomplished flutist and a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and has performed with the NY Philharmonic, the San Diego Symphony, and the Metropolitan Opera.

**RICHARD HESTER** (Production Supervisor) has been a stage manager and production supervisor for more than 40 years. On Broadway he was the *Jersey Boys* Production Stage Manager and then spent 16 years staging and maintaining productions in the US as well as all over the world. In addition to Mandy Patinkin's concerts, Richard is also the Production Supervisor for Patti LuPone's concert tour. Other Broadway includes *Summer, the Donna Summer Musical, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, A Delicate Balance, Titanic, Cabaret* as well as *Annie Get Your Gun* and *Gypsy* both starring Bernadette Peters. Internationally, he supervised *West Side Story* in Tokyo's StageAround Theatre.  Twenty-three years ago, with Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore, he helped found and produce *Broadway Barks!* an annual animal adoption event. Uniquely groundbreaking and exhilarating to watch and hear, the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) has been celebrated as one of the world’s great orchestras since Sir Thomas Beecham founded it in 1932. The LPO’s mission is ‘to share wonder with the modern world through the power of orchestral music’, which we accomplish through live performances, online, and an extensive education and community program.

London Philharmonic Orchestra's home is at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, at the beating heart of London’s cultural life. Audiences can also find them at resident venues in Brighton, Eastbourne and Saffron Walden, and on tour worldwide. In 2024, The LPO celebrated 60 years as Resident Symphony Orchestra at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, combining the magic of opera with Glyndebourne’s glorious setting in the Sussex countryside. 

Edward Gardner has been the LPO's Principal Conductor since 2021, succeeding Vladimir Jurowski who in the same year became Conductor Emeritus. Karina Canellakis is the current Principal Guest Conductor and Tania León is the Composer-in-Residence.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the world’s most-streamed orchestras, with over 15 million plays each month. In 2023, they were the most successful orchestra worldwide on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, and in spring 2024 they were featured in a behind-the-scenes TV documentary series on Sky Arts: *Backstage with the London Philharmonic Orchestra*. Audiences can hear the LPO on countless film soundtracks, and they released over 120 albums on their own the LPO Label. In 2024-25, the LPO is once again working with Marquee TV to stream selected concerts to enjoy from your own living room.

The LPO is committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians and music-lovers. They love seeing the joy of children and families experiencing their first musical moments and are passionate about inspiring schools and teachers through dedicated concerts, workshops, resources and training. Reflecting their values of collaboration and inclusivity, the OrchLab and Open Sound Ensemble projects offer music-making opportunities for adults and young people with disabilities and special educational needs.

Today’s young instrumentalists are the orchestra members of the future, and the LPO has multiple opportunities to support their progression. The LPO Junior Artists program leads the way in creating pathways into the profession for young artists from under-represented communities, and the LPO Young Composers and Foyle Future Firsts schemes support the next generation of professional musicians, bridging the transition from education to professional careers. They also recently launched the LPO Conducting Fellowship, supporting the development of two outstanding early-career conductors from backgrounds under-represented in the profession.

## **Edward Gardner**, Principal Conductor

Edward Gardner has been Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra since September 2021, recently extending his contract until at least 2028. He is also Music Director of the Norwegian Opera & Ballet, and Honorary Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, following his tenure as Chief Conductor from 2015–24. 

In 2024–25—his fourth season as Principal Conductor—Edward conducts nine the LPO concerts at the Royal Festival Hall, as well as a US tour culminating at Carnegie Hall, and in major European cities including Vienna, Frankfurt and Hamburg. He is joined by superb soloists including Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Randall Goosby, Víkingur Ólafsson, Isabelle Faust, and Augustin Hadelich, and presents works including Strauss’s mighty Alpine Symphony, Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8—an enormous end to the season. 

A passionate supporter of young talent, Edward founded the Hallé Youth Orchestra in 2002 and regularly conducts the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He has a close relationship with The Juilliard School of Music, and with the Royal Academy of Music who appointed him their inaugural Sir Charles Mackerras Conducting Chair in 2014.

Born in Gloucester in 1974, Edward was educated at the University of Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music and gained early recognition as Assistant Conductor of the Hallé and Music Director of Glyndebourne Touring Opera. His many accolades include the Royal Philharmonic Society Conductor of the Year Award (2008), an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera (2009) and an OBE for Services to Music in The Queen’s Birthday Honours (2012).

## **Randall Goosby**, Violin

American violinist Randall Goosby is acclaimed for the sensitivity and intensity of his musicianship alongside his determination to make music more inclusive and accessible, as well as bringing the music of under-represented composers to light. Goosby returned to London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2023 performing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 under the direction of Gemma New and feature both recital and chamber concerts. 

Goosby, signed exclusively to Decca Classics, released his first album entitled *Roots*, which is a celebration of African American music which explores its evolution from the spiritual through to present-day compositions. Collaborating with pianist Zhu Wang, Goosby curated an album paying homage to the pioneering artists that paved the way for him and other artists of color. It features three world-premiere recordings of music written by African American composer Florence Price and includes works by composers William Grant Still and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, plus a newly commissioned piece by acclaimed double bassist Xavier Foley, a fellow Sphinx and Young Concert Artists alumnus.
 
Goosby is deeply passionate about inspiring and serving others through education, social engagement and outreach activities. He has enjoyed working with non-profit organizations such as the Opportunity Music Project and Concerts in Motion in New York City, as well as participating in community engagement programs for schools, hospitals and assisted living facilities across the United States.

### **Ludwig van Beethoven** (1770-1827)

**Overture, *Egmont*, Op. 84**

Revolution was in the air when Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote his play *Egmont* in 1786. America had declared independence from Britain in 1776, and in 1789, the French were to begin the long and bloody process of overthrowing their own absolute monarchy. *Egmont* is set in the Netherlands in the 16th century, then brutally repressed by occupying Spanish forces. The hero, Count Egmont, rouses the Flemish people in revolt against Spanish tyranny. Eventually he is arrested, and an attempt to rescue him by his lover, Klärchen, fails. Klärchen poisons herself, and Egmont is executed—but not before he has had a vision of freedom personified as Klärchen herself, who crowns Egmont with a laurel wreath. Egmont offers his death as a sacrifice for his people, confident that freedom will prevail.

Despite the play's subversive message, Goethe's *Egmont* was staged by the Viennese Imperial Court Theatre in 1810, and it was for this production that Beethoven wrote his powerfully dramatic Overture. Beethoven's impassioned sympathy for Egmont's cause can be felt at every stage: the slow introduction, alternately stern and plaintive, leads to an urgent, obsessive *Allegro* that could easily be the first movement of a tragic symphony. As the music seems to be preparing to a grim final climax, the music is suddenly cut off. Silence follows, then a few plaintive chords for woodwind—surely the moment of Egmont's execution. Then, without any attempt at transition, the mood is catapulted into a bright F major and the Overture hurtles to an ecstatic conclusion. In the play—and in the context of Beethoven's own time—this vision of 'Crowned Freedom' is still only a far-off hope.

### **Samuel Barber** (1910-1981)

Violin Concerto, Op. 14

Samuel Barber was already well known as the most Romantically inclined of younger American composers—not least because of the immediate success of his *Adagio* for Strings—when he composed his Violin Concerto in 1939. Its twin moods are gentle lyricism and spiky brilliance: not such an unusual combination in 20th-century violin concertos (think of the Prokofiev concertos, or the almost exactly contemporary concerto by Walton); but here, instead of being placed side by side, they are completely separated, with two lyrical movements followed by a brilliant finale.

At first sight, the reason for this might appear to lie in geography and history: Barber began the work on a relaxed summer holiday in Switzerland and completed it on his return to America following the outbreak of the Second World War in Europe. But a more likely explanation has to do with the circumstances in which the Concerto came into being. It had been commissioned by a wealthy American businessman for a violin protégé. When this violinist saw the completed score of the first two movements, he complained that Barber's habitual lyricism was too much in evidence, and there was not enough of a virtuoso nature in the solo part. Barber promised to make amends in the finale, but he did so to such effect that the intended soloist declared that the movement was unplayable! Not surprisingly, the published score bears no dedication, either to the businessman or to the protégé; but it does record that the premiere was given by another violinist, Albert Spalding, with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Eugene Ormandy in February 1941. 

The first movement of the Concerto, in G major, is dominated by the long, expressive melody which the soloist unfolds right at the outset. The most important subsidiary idea is a clarinet tune to which Lombardic rhythmic figures (short-long) and modal inflections give a distinct Scottish flavor. These two themes never lose their identities for very long in the central development section, and after a full recapitulation and a short, accompanied cadenza they both figure in the quiet coda.

Woodwind instruments are as prominent in this coda as the soloist. And in the E major slow movement, too, the orchestra has an important part to play: the plaintive principal melody is given in turn to oboe, cello, clarinet, violins and horn before the solo violin makes its first entry. The soloist dominates the more agitated middle section, which ends with another accompanied cadenza, and then remains in the foreground with the impassioned return of the first section. 

The timpani launch the A minor finale with the triplet rhythms which are maintained almost throughout the movement, mostly—for literally page after page without a break—by the soloist. Barber occasionally suggests a disruption of their progress by throwing in off-beat accents or cross-rhythms in the orchestra, but the only melodic idea which emerges at all clearly is a chirpy little woodwind theme. Apart from this, the movement is all rhythmic drive, and the soloist's final gear-change from triplets to semiquavers even increases its impetus.

The years 1876 and 1877 were traumatic ones for Tchaikovsky. He was suffering increasingly from feelings of guilt over his homosexuality, and considerable mental torment from the fear of its discovery. As a result, he underwent a personal crisis that eventually drove him not just to an ill-advised marriage to a young student (a disastrous affair which lasted only a few weeks in the summer of 1877), but also to near-madness and a pitiable suicide attempt.

Two orchestral works of this time clearly reflect Tchaikovsky's disturbed state of mind. The first was the tone-poem *Francesca da Rimini*, composed in the autumn of 1876 and depicting the eternal damnation of Francesca and her lover Paolo, condemned in Dante's *Inferno* to the second circle of Hell for their helpless but illicit passion. The second was the Fourth Symphony, composed the following year, which confronted another specter that had been haunting Tchaikovsky: the destructive nature of Fate. The seeds may well have been sown by a performance of *Carmen* that the composer saw in Paris in early 1875, but they were undoubtedly brought to fruition by the harrowing events of the following two years. From these, Tchaikovsky emerged with a stronger-than-ever conviction of the power of 'the fateful force that prevents the impulse to happiness from achieving its goal ... which hangs over your head like the sword of Damocles.'

Tchaikovsky wrote these words in a letter to his patroness, Nadezhda von Meck, to describe the stark motto theme that opens the Symphony. The letter goes on to outline for von Meck the feelings underlying the rest of the work, a useful guide to its comprehension even now, though only after it has been borne in mind that it was written after the music had been completed. Thus, we learn that the oppressive waltz-tune that opens the fast section of the first movement signifies resignation in the face of Fate's supremacy, and the lilting second theme (announced on clarinet) the desire to 'turn away from reality and submerge oneself in daydreams. But though the music strives for happiness, it is Fate that gains the upper hand, with the motto theme returning to dominate the later stages of the movement.

For Tchaikovsky, the slow movement—with its haunting oboe melody—evoked 'the melancholy feeling which comes in the evening when, weary from your labor, you are sitting alone. You take a book, but it falls from your hand. A whole host of memories comes ... It's both sad, yet somehow sweet to immerse yourself in the past.' The ensuing *Scherzo* depicts less clearly defined emotions: Tchaikovsky refers vaguely to 'capricious arabesques,' 'drunken peasants' and 'a military procession,' but in truth a program is irrelevant in this orchestral tour-de-force in which three themes—for pizzicato strings, woodwind and brass respectively—are first alternated, then wittily combined. 

The Finale opens in a brilliant whirl of sounds which the sober Russian folk-tune 'In the fields there stood a birch' can only temporarily assuage. 'If you find no reason for joy within yourself', wrote Tchaikovsky, 'go among the people. Observe how they can enjoy themselves, surrendering themselves wholeheartedly to joyful feelings.' Amid the celebrations, however, the Fate theme from the first movement breaks in with an effect so devastating that the movement is brought to a standstill. But this time it cannot win. 'You have only yourself to blame; do not say that everything in the world is sad. There are simple but strong joys.' The Symphony concludes in a blaze of glory, and the composer, for the time being at least, turns his back on Fate.

Winning Golden Globe, Tony and Peabody awards for a long and multi-faceted career Barry continues to work in all genres with films like *The Incredibles 2, Grand Daddy Day Care, Bigger Fatter Liar, A Mermaid's Tale,* and *Three Days In August* among others as well as TV offerings on *Will And Grace, Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, Still The King*, as well as *Signed Sealed and Delivered* for Hallmark and "Ellis Island: The Dream Of America" for PBS's *Great Performances*. 

Bostwick is probably best known for playing Brad Majors in the cult classic *The Rocky Horror Picture Show* and Mayor Randall Winston in the long running sitcom *Spin City* and creating the role of Danny Zuko in the original Broadway production of *Grease*, winning his first of three Tony nominations, finally winning the Tony for Best Actor in a Musical for the lead character in *The Robber Bridegroom*. You can also look for him in the other cult favorite film *Megaforce*, along with *FDR: American Badass, Spyhard, Fantastic Planet, Three From Hell, Undercover Brother 2, The Outlaw Johnny Black, American Pie: Girls Rule*, the popular Netflix film *Single All The Way* and the 2003 *Daruma*. And his personal favorite *Movie Movie* with George C. Scott and directed by Stanley Donan among others. 

On TV he played George Washington in the 8-hour miniseries "George Washington" and 'Lady' Aster in "War and Remembrance" among dozens of other TV movies and miniseries. Series TV kept him busy with "Cougar Town," "Law and Order: SVU," "Supernatural," "Psych," "Phineas and Ferb," and for Disney, "Doogie Kahealoha" among other numerous animated features and TV shows.

Tonight’s Shadow Cast, The Michigan Rocky Horror Preservation Society (MiRHPS), was established in May of 2013 and is comprised of volunteer performers who are passionate about keeping the midnight audience participation shows alive. 

The group calls the State Wayne Theatre in downtown Wayne, Michigan their home for the last 11 years.  MiRHPS provides its audience with the classic Rocky Horror experience, including call back guidance and more.  

A Michigan 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Corporation, MiRHPS is dedicated to entertainment and inclusivity, creating a show to entertain its audience and empowering cast members to learn skills on and off the stage, truly embodying the film’s motto, “Don’t Dream It, Be It!”

### ACT ONE

**PROLOGUE: 1815, DIGNE**\
After 19 years on the chain gang, Jean Valjean finds that the ticket-of-leave he must display condemns him to be an outcast. Only the Bishop of Digne treats him kindly and Valjean, embittered by years of hardship, repays him by stealing some silver. Valjean is caught and brought back by the police and is astonished when the Bishop lies to the police to save him. Valjean decides to start his life anew. 


**1823, MONTREUIL-SUR-MER**\
Eight years have passed and Valjean, having broken his parole and changed his name to Monsieur Madeleine, has become a factory owner and Mayor. One of his workers, Fantine, has a secret illegitimate child. When the other women discover this, they demand her dismissal.

Desperate for money to pay for medicines for her daughter, Fantine sells her locket, her hair, and then joins the whores in selling herself. Utterly degraded, she gets into a fight with a prospective customer and is about to be taken to prison by Javert when the ‘Mayor’ arrives and demands she be taken to the hospital instead.

The Mayor then rescues a man pinned beneath a cart. Javert is reminded of the abnormal strength of convict 24601 Jean Valjean, who, he says, has just been recaptured. Valjean, unable to see an innocent man go to prison, confesses that he is prisoner 24601. At the hospital, Valjean promises the dying Fantine to find and look after her daughter Cosette. Javert arrives to arrest him, but Valjean escapes.


**1823, MONTFERMEIL**\
Cosette has been lodged with the Thénardiers, who horribly abuse her while indulging their own daughter, Éponine. Valjean pays the Thénardiers to let him take her away to Paris.

**1832, PARIS**\
Nine years later, there is unrest in the city because of the likely demise of the popular leader General Lamarque, the only man left in the government who shows any feeling for the poor. A street gang led by Thénardier and his wife sets upon Jean Valjean and Cosette. They are rescued by Javert, who does not recognize Valjean until he has gone.

The Thénardiers’ daughter Éponine, who is secretly in love with the student Marius, reluctantly agrees to help him find Cosette, with whom he has fallen in love.

News of General Lamarque’s death circulates in the city and a group of politically-minded students stream out into the streets to whip up support for a revolution.

Cosette is consumed by thoughts of Marius, with whom she has fallen in love. Éponine brings Marius to Cosette and then prevents an attempt by her father’s gang to rob Valjean’s house. Valjean, convinced it was Javert lurking outside his house, tells Cosette they must prepare to flee the country.


### ACT TWO

The students prepare to build the barricade. Marius, noticing that Éponine has joined the insurrection, sends her away with a letter to Cosette, which is intercepted by Valjean. Éponine decides to rejoin her love at the barricade. 

The barricade is built and the revolutionaries defy an army warning to give up or die. Javert is exposed as a police spy. In trying to return to the barricade, Éponine is killed. 

Valjean arrives at the barricade in search of Marius. He is given the chance to kill Javert but instead lets him go. The students settle down for a night on the barricade and, in the quiet of the night, Valjean prays to God to save Marius. The next day the rebels are all killed. 

Valjean escapes into the sewers with the unconscious Marius. After meeting Thénardier, who is robbing the corpses of the rebels, he comes across Javert once more. He pleads for time to deliver the young man to the hospital. Javert lets Valjean go and, his unbending principles of justice having been shattered by Valjean’s own mercy, he kills himself.

Unaware of the identity of his rescuer, Marius recovers in Cosette’s care. Valjean confesses the truth of his past to Marius and insists he must go away. 

At Marius and Cosette’s wedding, the Thénardiers try to blackmail Marius. Thénardier says Cosette’s ‘father’ is a murderer and as proof produces a ring which he stole from the corpse the night the barricade fell. It is Marius’s own ring and he realizes it was Valjean who rescued him that night. He and Cosette go to Valjean where Cosette learns for the first time of her own history before the old man dies.
