Having performed in the *Drowsy Chaperone* (Trix) and *Pride and Prejudice* (Elizabeth Bennet), she realized her passion for performing and went on to train extensively at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy where she studied roles from shows such as *Mean Girls* (Regina George), *Rent* (Joanne). **TREY PARKER** (*Original Co-Director, Book, Music, Lyrics*) wrote and directed his first feature film, *Cannibal! The Musical,* while attending the University of Colorado in Boulder. A few years later, Trey co-created the hit animated series "South Park" with Matt Stone, his college friend and *Cannibal!* producer. Debuting on Comedy Central in 1997 and currently in its 23rd season, "South Park" has won five Emmy Awards as well as the coveted Peabody Award. The same year "South Park" debuted, Parker wrote, directed and starred in the film *Orgazmo.* Two years later, Parker and Stone released the critically acclaimed feature film *South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.* The musical, which Parker directed and co-wrote, earned an Oscar nomination for Best Song and the first ever New York Film Critics Circle Award for an animated film. In 2004, the pair returned to theaters with *Team America: World Police,* an action movie co-written and directed by Parker that starred a cast of marionettes. It has been a long-time dream of Parker's to write a musical for Broadway. He won four Tonys® for *The Book of Mormon,* including Best Musical, as well as the Grammy for The Best Musical Theater Album. Trey Parker is originally from Conifer, Colo.

**ROBERT LOPEZ** (*Book, Music, Lyrics*) is the co-creator of the smash hit, Tony Award® winning Broadway musicals *Avenue Q* and *The Book of Mormon.* Along with his wife and collaborator Kristen Anderson-Lopez, he wrote the songs for Disney's *Frozen,* earning an Oscar and a Grammy for the movie's signature song "Let It Go," and a Grammy for the *Frozen* soundtrack. The pair adapted *Frozen* for Broadway which opened Spring 2018. Lopez and Anderson-Lopez also co-wrote the Oscar-winning song "Remember Me" from Pixar's *Coco,* original musical *Up Here,* the score for Disney's *Winnie the Pooh* and *Finding Nemo: The Musical* (playing at Walt Disney World since 2006). Lopez shared two Emmy Award wins for his music for Nickelodeon's "The Wonder Pets" and an Emmy nomination for the musical episode of "Scrubs" and the song "Moving Pictures" which opened the 87th Academy Awards. His work has also been featured on TV shows, including "South Park," "The Simpsons," and "Phineas and Ferb." Lopez is one of only 15 artists to win all four major entertainment industry awards (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony® Awards). He has also won Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League, Lucile Lortel, Frederick Loewe, and Edward Kleban awards. **MATT STONE** (*Book, Music, Lyrics*) met Trey Parker at the University of Colorado, and together they made a short animated piece called *The Spirit of Christmas.* This launched their most recognized work, the critically acclaimed and award-winning television show, "South Park." The animated series is in its 23rd season on Comedy Central and has won Stone five Emmy Awards and the coveted Peabody Award. *South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut,* which Stone produced and co-wrote, earned an Oscar nomination and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Animated Film. *THE BOOK OF MORMON* is a nine-time Tony Award® coming-of-age musical comedy that follows two young missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they attempt to evangelize a corrupted Ugandan village. After realizing that their teachings don’t resonate with the Ugandan people, the two missionaries decide to borrow stories from American pop-culture to spread The Good Word to the villagers. *THE BOOK OF MORMON* blends outrageous comedy and a heartfelt message into a wildly entertaining performance through its sharp wit, irreverent humor, and infectious energy.

The Hamilton team celebrates the incredible life and contributions of Theatrical Lighting Designer, Howell Binkley. His 52 Broadway shows included Hamilton, Jersey Boys, Come From Away, In the Heights, Kiss of the Spider Woman and so many more. His work on the Disney+ release of Hamilton, filmed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, immortalises his masterful artistry. Howell was adored by many and will be missed by all.

## **SUTTON FOSTER AWARDS**

The Sutton Foster Awards program is a state-wide educational initiative celebrating Michigan high school musical theatre. The program is open to all Michigan high schools, regardless of location, school size, or musical budget. The year-long program culminates in the Sutton Foster Awards Showcase that you will see today. The Sutton Foster Awards program has grown significantly over the past three years with 72 high schools represented today. Today’s program features 150 high school students performing selections from their school musicals and a variety of Broadway medleys.


**THE NOMINEES’ JOURNEY**\
All of today’s performers are hoping to become Michigan nominees for The National High School Musical Theatres Awards (The Jimmy Awards®) to be held in New York City later this summer. Performers were selected based on their participation in their respective high school musicals; each musical was reviewed by a panel of three expert adjudicators, who selected students to appear in today’s showcase. Once nominated, students were also invited to participate in one of two Workshop and Audition Weekends held earlier in May. During these weekends, the students experienced one-on-one vocal coaching with voice professionals, learned music and choreography for a musical theatre arrangement, custom-designed for each weekend, and auditioned for a panel of judges. All 150 students came together yesterday to rehearse and stage today’s 2025 Sutton Foster Awards Showcase.

Morgan is so grateful and overjoyed to be a back at this year's Sutton Foster Awards. Lauren Nicole Chapman is an Actor, Singer and Dancer working out of New York City. A proud Michigan native, she attended Interlochen Arts Academy for boarding school with a concentration in Theatre. She then went on to pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre at Emerson College in Boston, MA. With diploma in hand Lauren moved to NYC and shortly after joined the Broadway and touring companies of the Tony award winning musical, *Kinky Boots*. In 2017 Lauren joined the Original Broadway Cast of *Frozen* and has the past 7 years touring as Princess Anna.

The Young Playwrights Festival (YPF) is celebrating its 29th anniversary
this year. What began as a new educational opportunity in 1996 has
grown into one of the most influential and respected theatre programs
in the state, allowing high school students to see their original work
come to life on stage. Presented collaboratively by Wharton Center and
the Michigan State University Department of Theatre, YPF is an annual
event showcasing original works written by high school students and
produced by university graduate and undergraduate students, creating
a collaborative and immersive program.

More than 30 scripts were submitted by Michigan high school students,
which were read by the initial screening committee. From the 12
semifinalists selected, six finalist scripts were chosen to be produced.
In March, student directors for the finalist plays held auditions with
rehearsals starting in May. Playwrights were assigned professional
theatre mentors who, over five weeks, advised the playwrights on
rewriting their plays.

MSU Department of Theatre students are stage-managing and
providing the technical crews for today’s performance, allowing college
students to engage in the learning experience and work with young
directors and writers to create their production.

Throughout its existence, YPF has fostered up-and-coming talent
by providing writers with the opportunity to work with creative
professionals. At its core, YPF has always been a celebration of the
original work submitted to the program every year. The participants
are dedicated to producing the student’s work and teaching lifelong
skills like creative thinking, professional writing, working with a team,
and leadership.
